Biography
Gholamreza Moshashaei was born in the city of Tehran on January 14, 1951. He is the only contemporary distinguished research master of Cursive Nastaliq in Iran.He has been member of Iran Calligraphers Association since 1968. He has followed master Saiyid Hasan Mirkhani in Nastaliq. Shortly after three years, he achieved a superiordegree in Calligraphy. His tendency to learn Cursive Nastaliq led him to taught himself byinspiring from inscription of famous masters such as Darwish Abdulmajid, Saiyid Aliakbar Golestaneh and, Mirza Gholamreza. He has done his preliminary research with mentorship of master Ebrahim Bouzari. He was granted mastership in calligraphy from master Ebrahim Bouzari in 1982.
Moshashaei is a passionate and dedicated educator and promoter of Cursive Nastaliq style since 1975. He has also been teaching and instructing thecalligraphers in Iran Calligraphers Association, Faculty of Decorative Arts at Teacher Training Center. His knowledge of art and calligraphy is outstanding, which has taught many students of Darwish Abdulmajid followers to achieve mastership in this field. Master Moshashaei is a current member of calligraphic evaluation committee in Iran Calligraphers Association. The calligraphic Evaluation Committee evaluates candidates seeking mastership in Cursive
Nastaliq style of calligraphy. He is also a superior council and member of the Board of Trustees of Iranian Calligraphers Society. More than three decades, He has done cutting edge research into the origin of Cursive Nastaliq by collecting scattered manuscripts from domestic and international libraries, museums, and private collections which has been published for first time in the history of calligraphy as a comprehensive reference book of “Biography and Artworks of Darwish Abdolmajid” in 750 colorful pages. This award winning book has been published by Library of the Islamic Parliament of Iran in 2012. He has been an innovator in methods of education at Iran Calligraphers Association. He has provided the most unique encyclopedic researched collection of Cursive Nastaliq inscription in slide presentation formats which were collected over two decades from all over the world. These slide presentations are including all sorts of inscriptions; Kofi, Tholth, Mohaqqeq, Raihan, Roqa, Naskh, Nastaliq, and Skekasteh).
Autobiography
I was born in Tehran, Abbasi area. I attended to Haatef & Farmanieh elementary schools in Ghasr ‘o dasht area. when I was 10 years old, I have learnt basic techniques of calligraphy from my father. I graduated with honors from Babak high school. I have completed two years of compulsory military service in Iranian ground forces. By graduating from the University of Tehran with a bachelor's degree in Finance & Taxation, I worked as a Vice Minister at Internal Revenue Service of governmental agency for more than 35 years. I advanced my techniques of calligraphy by joining Iran Calligraphers Association in 1968. I found a strong inclination toward Cursive Nastaliq since my mother's ancestry subsequent to “Mohammad Hashem Hamedani” who was a famous calligrapher in Cursive Nastaliq inscription and following Darwish Abdulmajid as well. My life has been largely spent in researching and promoting Cursive Nastaliq style of “Darwish Abdolmajid”.
